The Falcon Fire Protection District held its monthly board meeting July 16 at the Falcon Fire Administration Building at 7030 Old Meridian Road. Joan Fritsche, attorney; Tom Kerby, vice president; Ray Hawkins, treasurer; James Reid, president; Steve Podoll, secretary; Trent Harwig, chief, attended. Dan Kupferer, assistant secretary was absent and excused.

The board unanimously approved June minutes.
New firefighter
Chief Harwig swore in new firefighter Louis Hall.
Citizen award presentation
Battalion Chief Joseph Cosgrove presented a plaque of appreciation to citizen Jason Bratrsovksy. Bratrsovsky runs a junk car buying business; and, over the last several years has allowed the department to use the cars to practice vehicle stabilization and extraction to assist firefighters with their training.
“My job in this world is to pass on blessings,” Bratrsovsky said. “I asked the Lord when I was in a dark place once, ‘If you have somebody that needs a blessing and they wouldn’t normally accept it but I can be the conduit to give it to them, put that blessing in front of me and show me who wants it.’ At the end of the day, I want you guys well-trained because it’s my family driving on this highway, too, and I want everybody to be well-trained and able to get people out safely and (I want) your safety, too.”
Treasurer’s report
Harwig presented the numbers through June 2025, representing 50% of the fiscal year.
The general fund was at 64% of anticipated revenues. Total expenses were at 47% of expected.
The ambulance transport fund was at 48% of the expected revenues. Total expenses were at 46% of expected.
The capital project fund had received 50% of expected revenues. Total expenses were at 22% of expected.
The rural water fund had no new activity.
The board unanimously passed the report.
Staff reports
Deputy Chief Jeff Petersma presented the operations report.
There were 393 total calls in May and 1,817 for the year, with 1,471 belonging to the district. The average response times across all districts in April remained stable.
The emergency medical services chief, Jon Webb, presented the EMS report.
There were 124 transports in June. Year-to-date showed 878 transports and a cash per trip of $748.19. The 24-month average was $653.55 cash per trip. With the supplemental Medicaid reimbursement, the cash per trip was $809.74.
Lt. Curtis Kauffman presented the fire prevention report. In June, there were 12 building inspections, five fire finals, three pre-construction meetings and seven Electronic Development Application Reviews.
The next meeting is Aug. 20.
