Business Briefs: Chamber Update

By Larry Sparks

On Wednesday, May 1, the Eastern Plains Chamber of Commerce held its monthly breakfast meeting at Grace Community Church in Falcon.

The breakfast sponsor was Tim Kealy of C2 Financial Corporation. He spoke to the group about the benefits of the Reverse Mortgage for the right client. Tim also serves on the board of our chamber as treasurer.

The meeting occurred in the middle of Small Business Week, which was April 29 through May 3. Our speaker on May 1 was Brandon Eldridge of the Small Business Development Center. The SBDC is funded, in part, through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration. The SBDC Network is a partnership between the state of Colorado, the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, the Small Business Administration, Colorado’s institutions of higher education, local economic development organizations and local chambers of commerce.

Brandon, who spent years of his career in commercial banking, understands the needs of small businesses very well. He has 22 years of management experience and is the executive director for the Pikes Peak SBDC. His community work includes past president of the SCWCC Foundation, past board member for Kids on Bikes, past president of the Leadership Pikes Peak board of directors and past president of the CONO board of directors. In 2019, he was awarded the Community Trustee Award through LPP, and was selected by the CSBJ (Colorado Springs Business Journal) as a Rising Star in 2020.

In his presentation, he shared with us the many resources available for small businesses. For example, the Pikes Peak Small Business Development Center offers small business consulting and training to maximize the economic potential of entrepreneurs. The goal of the Small Business Development Center is to help emerging and existing entrepreneurs gain control of their business operations. They provide free guidance and counseling in all aspects of funding and developing small business. No business can eliminate risk; with the support of the SBDC, risk can be minimized and mitigated.

Let the SBDC help maximize your business potential!
