El Paso County approved the deed of land on Feb. 1 for the El Paso County Sheriff Office new substation in Falcon.Jacqueline Reed, information officer for the sheriffís office, said the cooperation between Sheriff Bill Elder and Falcon Fire Protection District Chief Trent Harwig has been instrumental in the plans for the substation, which is adjacent to FFPD Station 1. The substationís address is 12017 Royal County Down Road.According to an article in the Feb. 1 issue of The Gazette, the property was donated by the developer for public safety purposes for the FFPD. Harwig said they did not need the property so they sold it to the sheriffís department.Reed said prior to construction, there will be a modular building set up at the location. The Gazette article stated that the substation will cost between $3 million to $5 million to build. Reed said they estimate the project will take about two years. The substation will cover Falcon and the majority of unincorporated El Paso County.
