At the July 15 meeting of the Falcon Fire Protection District Board of Directors, board members discussed plans for construction of the new Station 3 and the renovation of the current Station 3 into an administration building.Good news financiallyìWe are under budget in all four categories,î said Chief Trent Harwig, noting that the year was 50 percent complete. He added that collection rates for ambulance service are catching up.StatisticsThe board learned that in June there were 87 ambulance transports. That number is increasing, and Assistant Chief Jon Webb, who heads up the EMS service, expected 100 transports in July. There were 84 reserve hours in June and 232 calls for fire service. Year to date, there have been 1,357 calls, slightly lower than the 1,388 calls this time last year. All full-time positions are filled, and there are five part-time firefighters.Road construction reportOnce the asphalt is laid at the intersection of Old Meridian Road and U.S. Highway 24, Harwig said work will begin at the intersection of Meridian and Rolling Thunder roads.New Station 3 constructionìEverything is moving along fairly well,î Harwig said of plans for the new Station 3. The site location has been approved by the El Paso County Planning and Community Development Department. All other necessary documentation has been submitted to the county and should be approved by the end of August. Drawings have been submitted to the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department. The lease purchase agreement to finance construction will be finalized at the next board meeting and will be signed as soon as the development plant is approved. Construction is expected to be completed next April.Renovation of current Station 3Plans for the renovation of the current Station 3 into an administration building are being approved. The goal is for paperwork to be approved and preliminary work to be completed by next April so that work can start as soon as the new Station 3 is completed.Future meetingsThe November meeting has been moved from Nov. 18 to Nov. 11.The next board meeting is scheduled for Aug. 19 at Station 3 at 4 p.m. and can be seen on Zoom by going to https://zoom.us/j/731479999
