US 24 & Meridian Road Improvements

Project OverviewStarting in March 2020, El Paso County and contractor partner, HEI Civil, began mobilization and exploratory work in support of upcoming construction of the US 24 & Meridian Road Improvements and Falcon Park-n-Ride Project in the community of Falcon. This infrastructure and transportation improvement project is expected to improve intersections, reduce traffic congestion, and increase carpooling and vanpooling with a long-term goal of providing express transit service.Traffic impacts start on or after April 20The project will be completed in phases to minimize impacts to residents, businesses and commuter traffic. Lane and shoulder closures in the immediate area of the project are expected.Starting on or after Monday, April 20, work will begin to construct ìNewîMeridian as shown in the image to the right. This initial work will require shoulder closures on US 24.Motorists are encouraged to drive with caution and follow all signage in the work zone. Business and residential access will be maintained as normal. Typical work hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. Limited weekend or night work is possible. All work is dependent on weatherand resource availability. The construction schedule is subject to change. Projectcompletion is anticipated in Summer 2021. Updates will be provided as the project progresses.Project BackgroundThis project will:

  • Connect ìNewî Meridian to US 24 and extend ìNewî Meridian to FalconHighway
  • Create a full movement signalized intersection at ìNewî Meridian and US 24
  • Convert the full movement ìOldî Meridian and US 24 intersection to right in/right out access only
  • Construct a Park-n-Ride facility south of US 24 adjacent to ìNewî Meridian and ìOldî Meridian
This $11 million project is funded by the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority, the Federal Highway Association, and El Paso County.An open house will be held near the project location at a later date still to be determined.More details to follow in the coming weeks.
