Roundabout Project open house

On March 5, the El Paso County Department of Public Works held an open house at Patriot High School regarding the Old Meridian Road and McLaughlin Road Roundabout Project. About 53 people from the community attended the open house, where representatives from EPC as well as Kiewit Infrastructure Co., the construction contractor, were available to answer questions.According to the overview and design, the project will consist of the following: construction of a roundabout at the existing three-leg intersection; addition of Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant sidewalks, curb ramps and crosswalks; construction of new drainage facilities; and reconstruction of New Meridian Road from 300 feet north of Highway 24 to and including the New Meridian Road and Rolling Thunder intersection.Phase 1 of the project began in early March and is expected to last through the summer; the project requires a temporary full closure of the Old Meridian Road, McLaughlin Road and Rolling Thunder intersection, according to the projectís phasing schedule.Kate Binning, public information manager for Kiewit, said the local businesses, like Bartlett Hay, will still be accessible during construction.Additional updates will be provided by the county as work progresses through the phases, with anticipated completion of the project in the fall of 2020.
