The Falcon Fire Protection District held its regular monthly board meeting May 15. All directors were present except for Mike Collins, who participated via teleconference; and Joan Hathcock, who was granted an excused absence. Attorney Joan Fritsche, legal counsel for the district, was also present.Treasurerís reportChief Trent Harwig reported that the fiscal year was 33 percent complete as of April 30. The general fund had received 45 percent of its anticipated revenue. Expenses across all categories were at 40 percent, including transfers to the ambulance and capital improvement funds. Harwig noted that special ownership tax revenue continues to exceed expectations at around $20,000 per month. Harwig said the EMS division chief should be hired in the next 30 days.Expenses in the capital projects fund include all new LifePak defibrillators, a cot for the reserve ambulance and other expenses related to the new ambulances.Harwig said the district has a chance through a bulk purchase to obtain generators for backup power at fire stations 2 and 6. Although not a budgeted expense, Harwig said it is a good opportunity. He noted that the cost of repairing the Station 6 restroom after the last time the pipes froze was nearly as much as the cost of one generator.Reservist hoursHarwig reported that FFPD reservists logged 302 reserve standby hours in April. There were no station brownouts.Incident statisticsThe district received 261 calls for service in April, which was the second highest monthly call volume in its history (excluding March 2019 numbers). The year-to-date total as of April 30 was 1,143 calls for service, which is a 34.9 percent increase over the same period in 2018.Volunteer pension board meetingThe actuarial reports for the volunteer pension fund were not received in time for the pension board meeting, so it was postponed and rescheduled for August.Old Meridian Road and U.S. Highway 24 intersectionThe board discussed ongoing business associated with the intersection redesign at Old Meridian Road and U.S. Highway 24 and approved two resolutions related to the project:
- Resolution 5-15-2019-1: Approving conveyance of property and authorizing execution of documents related thereto. This resolution applies to property exchange with Falcon Highlands Metropolitan District and authorizes the fire chief to sign associated documents.
- Resolution 5-15-2019-2: Authorizing grant of temporary construction easements and authorizing execution of documents related thereto. This resolution authorizes the fire chief to sign documents related to the temporary construction easements granted to the county for the road project.
