El Paso County Public Works crews have begun a bridge deck replacement project on the Elbert Road bridge. Elbert Road will be closed to all traffic during this project.The bridge is located between Judge Orr Road and U.S. Highway 24. All traffic will be detoured along Judge Orr Road to Stapleton Drive to Highway 24. The detour length is about 2 miles.The complete road closure will hasten the project and reduce the total amount of time the public will be inconvenienced. Residents living along Elbert Road will have access, but should expect delays.The bridge project, which began Sept. 19, is expected to take about six to eight weeks, weather permitting. The maintenance includes replacement of the bridge decks, sand blasting and painting the bridge structures, repaving roadway bridge approach areas and guardrail repair.Work will be performed by El Paso Countyís road and bridge maintenance crews.†Funding is provided by El Paso County Road and Bridge. El Paso County is responsible for 270 bridges on County roads and suburban streets. Nine of those are old wooden bridges, 55 are steel deck designs and the rest are concrete box culvert designs.
