Construction on Phase 2 of the Woodmen Road Corridor Improvement Project is under way. Phase 2 will expand Woodmen Road east of Academy Boulevard to Lexington Drive to six lanes, while building a new continuous flow intersection at Woodmen Road and Union Boulevard.†The completion of Phase 2 will create the final link of a six-lane Woodmen Road from Academy Boulevard to Powers Boulevard.†Wildcat Construction is the contractor for this $31 million project, which is expected to take 18 months to complete, ending in November 2017. An open house for the public to meet the project management team is planned for the coming weeks.†The new roadway is designed to ease chokepoints for motorists where Woodmen Road is reduced from six lanes to four. The new Continuous Flow Intersection, a first in Colorado Springs, will relieve pressure and create a safer intersection at Woodmen Road and Union Boulevard. The project will also improve the corridor by adding new medians, turn lanes, bike lanes, sidewalks, a 12-foot wide concrete multipurpose path, and landscaping.Residents with questions may contact the public information team at 719-900-5960 or woodmenrd@PublicInfoTeam.com.
