Ceremony to honor Korean War veterans

The Dutch Nelsen Chapter, Korean War Veterans Association, will commemorate Korean War Armistice Day on Saturday, July 23, at 10 a.m. in Memorial Park in Colorado Springs. The ceremony will be held in front of the chapter’s monument in the park’s “Ring of Honor” at 300 South Union Boulevard. The Dutch Nelsen Chapter, in cooperation with the Korean American Society of Southern Colorado, will host the ceremony.Scheduled as the guest speaker is James McGibney, honorary consul-general of the Republic of Korea in Denver and a leading regional business leader. The Junior ROTC detachment from Widefield High School under advisor Maj. Mark Davis (retired from the U. S. Marine Corps) has been selected to present the national colors. The Dutch Nelsen Chapter and the Korean American Society of Southern Colorado will place wreaths in front of the Korean monument, remembering those who served in the Korean War, including those who were wounded, killed in action or remain missing in action.Representatives from the Colorado Springs City Council, the El Paso County Board of County Commissioners and the Korean community of Southern Colorado will be among the honored guests.Dutch Nelsen Chapter President Boni Duran is encouraging the public, all veterans and active duty personnel to attend this patriotic event.
