In November, members of American Legion Post 2008, American Legion Riders 2008, Ladies Auxiliary 2008, Sons of the American Legion Post 209, Cub Scout Pack 228, Cub Scout Pack 231, Boy Scout Troop 149, Boy Scout Troop 228, Falcon Junior ROTC, Bonaventure Retirement Home and their family members honored 111 veterans by placing flags on graves at Eastonville Cemetery in Black Forest. It was an outstanding turnout from the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts of America, and the largest group ever with a total of 63 people, who helped out at this annual event, which started in 2008. The flags were placed about a week prior to Veterans Day. Eastonville Cemetery was founded in 1865 and is located at the northeast corner of Meridian and Latigo roads, northeast of Colorado Springs and north of Falcon.Established in 2007, Post 2008 was looking for a way to participate in the communities of Falcon and Black Forest. In November 2008, the began honoring veterans buried at the cemetery by placing the flags on their graves on Veterans Day and Memorial Day. They invited the local area Boy/Cub Scouts to participate, and it has been an annual event ever since. The first year, 48 veterans were identified in the cemetery and now the current number is 111. Veterans buried at the cemetery include those who served during the Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf and during peacetime years.
