The Veteranís Day meeting of the Black Forest AARP Chapter was a dedicated salute to the†veterans of the chapter and all veterans across the country. †The chapter members who were†veterans were asked, if possible, to wear some part of their uniform. Several of the 14 present did. Each was presented with an individual package of items related to his/her specific†branch of the service ñ- and all five U.S. military branches of the service were represented, Army Navy,†Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard.† † † † †Master quilter, Shirley Karlstrum, designed and created a special hanging banner that she†donated for the occasion. A drawing was held for the veterans present, and the lucky recipient†of the quilt was Donald Dinwoodie. The program speaker, Phillip Heacock, lead docent at the National Museum of World War II†Aviation in Colorado Springs, spoke on an appropriate subject for the day. He discussed the†ongoing effort to recover U.S. WW II aircraft and rebuild them to flying condition. He also†answered numerous detailed questions about the acquisition and rebuilding process. The local†museum is open three days a week to the public for tours at a nominal cost. The chapter members and guests also enjoyed an extensive catered dinner, accented with†Thanksgiving decorations provided by Linda Rozak.†A table was also set for POW/MIA veterans†not present.† † † † †The day concluded with a brief business meeting. The next chapter meeting will begin†at noon Dec. 9 at the Black Forest Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. †Guests are welcome.†For more information, contact Chuck at 749-9227 or visit the chapter website at†http://aarpchapter1100blackforest.weebly.com/index.html
