Woodmen Hills board meeting wrap up

The Woodmen Hills Metropolitan District Board of Directors met for a regular monthly meeting in October. All board members were present, except for Steve Kreps, vice president, who had given prior notice of his absence.During the public comment segment, resident Toni Dicenso expressed concern that the district has had three directors in three years for the parks and recreation department. The last director, Phil Moya, is no longer with the district.Tabitha Barile, assistant parks and recreation director, updated the board on activities, including a mini-camp held during the Falcon School District 49 fall break. Barile also discussed winterizing efforts made throughout the district. A canned food drive will be held Nov. 7 to Nov. 20, with donations going to High Plains Helping Hands Food Pantry. ìWhen you bring in a donation, you get a free fitness class for that day,î Barile said. The board unanimously approved a resolution to send delinquent accounts to the El Paso County treasurer for collection, along with a motion to adopt the 2016 budget.Gene Cozzolino, water/wastewater director, reported that the Guthrie well site had been experiencing turbidity or cloudiness in the water. His crew has been working on the problem. The old lift station No. 2, near Walgreens, has been demolished, Cozzolino said. The new lift station, adjacent to the old one, has been operating for almost two years.Cozzolino said the wastewater treatment plant received test results on the water. The tests were good, except for the toxicity test, which is not unusual because of an undesirable high level of ammonia in the water. He said the ammonia issue is one reason the state wants the district to upgrade the facility. Cozzolino also said repairs to the drainage along Rio Secco Road should be finished by the end of the month.Following the meeting, in a separate interview, Lynne Bliss, board president, said Barile and Lisa Peterson, administration director, will assume Moyaís duties until a new director is hired. The job opening will most likely not be posted until the start of 2016, Bliss said. The next regular board meeting for Woodmen Hills Metropolitan District is Nov. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the community center west.
