On May 12, the Pikes Peak Justice & Peace Commission awarded a Peace Scholarship to Harrison Hiebert, a senior at Falcon High School in Falcon School District 49. The PPJPC is a community-based organization founded in 1978 and grounded in the principles of nonviolence, sustainable living and social and economic justice, according to the organizationís website.The Peace Scholarship was created in 1999, and the PPJPC scholarship committee awards at least one $500 Peace Scholarship in May every year to high school seniors who demonstrate a commitment to peaceful conflict resolution, the creation of social justice, environmental activism and/or the promotion of nonviolent solutions.Hiebert received $1,000, which can be used to continue community activities and/or further his education.
