Exchange Club donationThe Falcon Exchange Club donated $250 to the Falcon Fire Protection Districtís public education account for the purchase of black and pink plastic fire helmets to be given to children at local events. The helmets are a hit with kids and help firefighters promote fire safety messages and goodwill.Station 2 mitigation projectFalcon firefighters combined mitigation work with training at FFPD fire station No. 2, near the intersection of North Meridian Road and Murphy Road. The purpose was to thin out trees to improve the buildingís survivability in the event of a wildfire.FFPD firefighters certified as wildland firefighting sawyers practiced their chainsaw skills, and also trained other firefighters on this important aspect of wildland firefighting. They chipped slash from the downed trees with the help of the Colorado Springs Utilities chipper and the Catamount Wildland fire team.
