Objects of Affection is the creation of Lani Robertson, a two-year Falcon resident. Specializing in handmade jewelry, Robertson has a unique way of marketing her jewelry ó a remodeled camper that allows her to set up shop in her driveway in Woodmen Hills or haul it to Denver to participate in craft shows such as the Horseshoe Market.Robertson has been creating jewelry since about 2006. She owned a brick and mortar shop in Kit Carson, Colorado, before her family moved to Falcon. ìSetting up the displays is one of my favorite things about having a shop.î Robertson said people in the small town of Kit Carson didnít always ìgetî her style, which tends toward vintage or nostalgic. Robertson has looked in Falcon for a space to open shop, but the cost of renting or buying a place is too high, she said. Instead, she has converted an old 1976 Twilight Bungalow camper, given to her by a friend, into a mobile craft store.ìIt leaked a lot, and we had to fix the roof,î Robertson said. The camper is now completely transformed, inside and out.The exterior is a mix of colors: cream, pink and baby blue; and the interior was decoupaged with old book pages and then whitewashed. The leaky ceiling now has ceiling tiles painted white, and some of the old cabinets and toilet area have been redone to better fit her shop needs. ìI use the bathroom area as a dressing room now for the vintage clothes,î she said.Robertson accepts commissions from other artists and crafters interested in having their work in her mobile shop. ìI do a 70/30 split ó 70 percent going to the artist,î she said. ìThere are just so many talented people here in Falcon, I would love to do more consignments. I love vintage or unique styles.îCurrently, Robertson has five other artists displaying their wares in her shop. She also has allowed other artisans an opportunity to set up at no charge in her driveway when her mobile shop is open in Woodmen Hills.
