Falcon’s “pink” game a huge success

The Falcon High School varsity football team held its second annual ìpinkî game Oct. 19 against Air Academy in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.Marianne Hall and Jennifer Strauser, mothers of senior football players Chad Hall and Tyler Strauser, decided to approach the school about playing a ìpinkî game to support breast cancer month. ìIíve been involved with many cancer foundations, and I am proud to help teach the boys respect and honor,î Hall said. They adopted the idea from a ìToday Showî episode last year, which featured another high school football team that had donned pink for a game as a tribute to breast cancer month. Hall and Strauser got together and brought the idea to last yearís coach, Trevor Hudson, who jumped on board with the plan and made it happen. This year, new co-coaches Terry Poirer and Brian Green had second thoughts about having a second pink game. Hall and Strauser requested that the coaches ask the team their opinion, and 100 percent of the players supported another pink game.ìFalcon nation is proud, and Iím happy this shows our boys that there are bigger things other than football.î Strauser said. Both the varsity and junior varsity squads were outfitted in new pink jerseys and pink socks for the game. Families associated with the school donated funds for the pink garb, for a total of $7,600. Each jersey the players wore had the name of a person who currently has or has had cancer etched on the back. The remainder of the proceeds will go to the Rocky Mountain Childrenís Foundation. ìThe kids know they are playing for that name on the back of their jersey,î Strauser said. And play they did, with a 52-12 victory over Air Academy. (See football wrap up.)
