Lost in the fire: wedding ring replaced

When Falcon firefighter Ian Haas set out with his crew to battle the Black Forest fire, he focused on the homes and property in jeopardy; and, in the midst of it all, lost one of his own prized possessions.Haas lost his wedding ring during extinguishment and mop-up operations in the north end of the fire district. He had been repeatedly removing his work gloves and putting them back on; and, at one point, he realized his ring had come off with the gloves. After the fire, he and his fellow firefighters searched the property where he thought the ring had fallen but were unable to find it.Without the ring, Haas said he ìjust didnít feel right.î He and his wife of four years, Christy, wanted to buy a replacement ring, but she had recently quit her job because of health reasons. Finances were a little tight. ìWe were just hoping to find an inexpensive ring on Overstock.com or something,î Christy Haas said.Thatís when firefighter Amy Webb stepped in. She wanted to help her crewmate and friend get another ring, so she started making phone calls. Soon, Tri-Lakes Cares and Colorado Springsí Luisa Graff Jeweler worked together to provide a replacement. Haas received the ring Sept. 3 in a gathering at Luisa Graff Jewelers that was also attended by family, firefighters and local media.Touched by Webbís efforts, Haas said, ìIt just shows the true brotherhood and sisterhood we have in the fire department. I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for making this happen.î
