Our thoughts remain with those impacted by the devastating Black Forest Fire. As of June 26, the district is aware of six staff members and six student families who lost homes in the fire. The district expresses deep concern and care for our affected families, staff and community members.Acts of care and compassion are needed during this tragedy. District employees interested in offering monetary support to staff members who’ve lost a home should visit Christine Verhoevenís website (cverhoeven@d49.org)†at the Education Services Center reception area (10850 E Woodmen Road in Peyton). Make checks payable to Falcon School District 49 with Fire Relief in the memo line. Community members are encouraged to contribute to Care and Share and the Red Cross to donate additional support or funding. †June 20,†Falcon School District 49†leaders, including its administrators and the Board of Education, unanimously agreed to open district facilities at no charge to local nonprofit organizations impacted by the Black Forest fire. As the community is beginning the cleanup and recovery, space will be needed for planning and coordination. The district wants to make space available to those organizations that need assistance. Contact 719-495-1130 for information on using district space.†If youíre coordinating an activity to assist fire evacuees, firefighters or emergency personnel, email†info@d49.org†and ask for the district’s help with sharing information about acts of generosity. We encourage our District 49 community to live out the lesson we learned after the Waldo Canyon Fire: Community Doesn’t Burn.
