BF AARP celebrates 40th anniversary

The Black Forest AARP chapter is inviting everyone to a potluck lunch Wednesday, Sept. 12, to celebrate its 40th anniversary as a chapter. The celebration will take place at noon at the Black Forest Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 12455 Black Forest Road, in Black Forest. A special presentation will highlight the lives of two outstanding AARP members: Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, who founded AARP in 1958; and Edith Wolford, the first president of the Black Forest chapter and former teacher and principal at the Black Forest Elementary School.Food driveThe Black Forest AARP chapter is sponsoring a food drive from Sept. 7 through Sept. 16. All collections will be donated to the Black Forest Cares Food Pantry. The project serves as the chapterís 2012 ìDay of Serviceî project in support of the Drive to End Hunger. Partnering with the chapter are Black Forest Fire and Rescue, Black Forest Jeweler, Colorado Cats, D & D Ranch, Fire House on the Run, Nizhomi Health Center, R & R Coffee & CafÈ, Rockiní B Feed and Supply, Magic Moments Preschool, Black Forest Pies & Grinders, Paws N Tails Hydrotherapy Pool and the Black Forest Postal Service and Convenience store.The Black Forest AARP chapter meets at noon the second Wednesday of each month in the Fellowship Hall at the Black Forest Lutheran Church, 12455 Black Forest Road.
