The Black Forest AARP held their annual shredding event June 9. About 522 people brought 23,000 pounds of personal documents for shredding by Shred-It Colorado. They donated 1,177 pounds of non-perishable food and $396 to Black Forest Cares, a community food bank, in return for the shredding service.AARP extends a sincere thanks to ElderWatch Colorado and all who participated. Special recognition goes to Shred-It Colorado for donating a shredding truck and operator; Walmart, Safeway and King Soopers for their donations of snacks and water; Black Forest Lutheran Church for the use of their facilities; Black Forest Fire and Rescue for providing the safety cones; and 36 AARP members who volunteered to plan and make this community event a success.The Black Forest AARP Chapter works hard to serve the local community. The chapter motto is “To Serve Not to Be Served.” Anyone interested in participating in community service and becoming a chapter member should call Chuck at 719-749-9227.
