The Black Forest AARP Chapter No. 1100 honored Charles and Shirley Karlstrum at the May meeting by presenting them with the AARP Community Service Award. The Karlstrums were chapter leaders during 2011 for projects that included nonperishable food collection and monetary donations to area food banks; the chapterís free shredding event; and distributing wellness and personal safety literature at area expos and health fairs. They were also instrumental in guiding the Black Forest chapter in a statewide competition that culminated in the chapter earning the designation of best AARP chapter in Colorado for 2011.The Black Forest Chapter motto is “to serve, not to be served.”†Chapter membership is open to all persons in every age group.†For information on meeting times and dates and how to help create good in the community by being a chapter member, contact Chuck at 719-749-9227.
