In honor of Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss’s birthday, the students and faculty of Ridgeview Elementary School transformed March 2 into Dr. Seuss day.All were encouraged to dress up as their favorite Dr. Seuss character, and students were asked to carry a book with them everywhere they went. The office staff made periodic announcements to DEAR (Drop Everything and Read).Schoolwide activities included Dr. Seuss movies, a door-decorating contest with multicolored goldfish as the prize and a colorful lunch of green eggs and ham.First-grade teacher Angela Mullen’s class used cotton balls and pipe cleaners to make clovers from ìHorton Hears a Who.îìOur class also made Horton ears and spent the day treating others like Horton would,î Mullen said. The motto for the day was ìa person’s a person no matter how small.îKaty Motley’s second-grade class made Seussical characters and wrote a story about them.Lori Dion, physical education teacher, dressed as a red fish from ìOne Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fishî and helped the kindergarten class play Dr. Seuss-themed games.ìMy favorite part of the day was seeing how creative my students can be,î Mullen said.
