Curves under new ownership

January brought changes for Curves in Falcon. Previous owner Caroline Bilodeau handed over the reins to Jennifer Matthews, who frequented Curves as a client before purchasing the franchise.ìI was a Department of Defense employee who was going to retire in a few months,î Matthews said. ìI was talking to Caroline about what I wanted to do after I retired, and I asked her if there were any Curves franchises around. She said she was thinking about selling, and I decided to jump right in.îMatthews, a type 1 diabetic, said she has been doing the Curves workout routine for four years and it has helped keep her diabetes under control, as well as helping her lose 30 pounds. ìI believe in women’s health, and I think women need to put themselves first,î Matthews said. ìIt helped me and that’s why I’m promoting it.îCurves is different from standard gyms in that clients move through a circuit of different exercise machines. The circuit allows the client to finish a 30-minute workout without the confusion of which machines to use.Matthews said she will be looking to her clientele to determine what, if any, changes are needed for the business.ìWe do offer Zumba here, and the clients love it,î she said. ìWe’re updating our music to more hip hop and some salsa music.îThe hours of operation might change slightly, Matthews said. Currently, Curves is open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. ìWe’re thinking about being open from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturdays,î she said. ìWe’re checking to see if our clients want that extra hour or not.î
