At the board meeting in October, the Peyton Fire Protection District board verbally offered the position of volunteer fire chief to Charles Omdahl.Omdahl accepted the offer in person but still needs to sign a written agreement, said Leon Gomes, board president.”Mr. Omdahl was the hiring committee’s top pick and the board accepted their recommendation,” Gomes said. Omdahl lives in El Paso County, which is a requirement for the position.The hiring committee consisted of two board members, two firefighters and an officer. They interviewed four candidates in September.Gomes said Omdahl has numerous certifications and has worked for the Security Fire Department in Security, Colo., and more recently as an emergency medical technician instructor.Omdahl will be sworn in and pinned with the chief’s badge at the district’s board meeting at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at the fire station in Peyton.”We’re looking forward to having stable leadership in place again,” Gomes said.
