September marks the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attack on the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and the World Trade Center in New York City. As a result, citizens are encouraged to perform good deeds or engage in other forms of charitable service during the week of 9/11 to rekindle the spirit of unity, service and compassion shared by so many in the immediate aftermath of the attacks.Black Forest AARP Chapter No. 1100, in conjunction with several Black Forest merchants, is sponsoring a food drive Sept. 9-19 for the 2011 Day of Service project. The collection of food and donations will be given to Black Forest Cares Food Pantry in support of the national Drive to End Hunger.Donations of nonperishable food or cash can be dropped off at any of these Black Forest merchants: Black Forest Fire and Rescue, Black Forest Jeweler, Nizhomi Health Center, Black Forest Financial and Accounting Services LLC,R & R Coffee & Cafe, Rockin’ B Feed and Supply, Paws N Tails Hydrotherapy Pool and Black Forest Postal Service and Convenience Store.Persons interested in contributing to the community through Black Forest AARP chapter membership should contact the chapter president, Chuck Karlstrum, at 719-749-9227.
