On Flag Day, June 14, members of American Legion Dane R. Balcon Post 2008, Cub Scout Pack 169 and family members gathered at Falcon Fire Station 1 in Falcon to conduct a “Ceremony for Disposal of Unserviceable Flags.” The two organizations properly disposed of more than 75 unserviceable flags. The Ceremony for Disposal of Unserviceable Flags is outlined in Resolution No. 440, and was passed by the 19th national convention of the American Legion in New York in 1937. The ceremony has been an important American Legion ritual. At the ceremony, Post 2008 Commander Bob Levesque recited words outlined in the resolution: “Let these faded Flags of our Country be retired and destroyed with respectful and honorable rites and their places be taken by bright new Flags … let no grave of our soldier and sailor dead be unhonored and unmarked.”American Legion Post 2008 would like to thank all who helped with the ceremony and Falcon firefighters Cody Thomson, Sean Tafoya and Cory Galicia.
