Since our last edition of the Vinnie Mac Sports Corner, the only up-to-date games to report are the state playoffs.First round playoffsFalcon 55 Montrose 53In the first game of the playoffs, No. 11 seed Falcons drew No. 22 seed Montrose and won by a score of 55-53. Kendall Godley dropped in 23 points, including a 2-pointer with just over one second left in the game to pull out the victory. Kalen Link, one of the big three for the Falcons, got into foul trouble early and eventually fouled out although he played for just six to seven minutes. First round Sweet 16 playoffsFalcon 47 Valor Christian 49No. 11 seed Falcon drew No. 6 seed Valor Christian and fought down to the last five seconds before V.C.’s big man nailed a short 7-foot dunk. This game was exciting to watch as the lead changed hands several times. Falcon was down by 8 at halftime, but put 20 points on the board in the third quarter to take a 4-point lead at the end of the quarter. Cold shooting took its toll at the start of the fourth quarter, which led to the 2-point loss. All in all, the Falcons had a good season. Going down the stretch, the Falcons were 8-2, with several 1-and-2-point victories. Two team members were all-conference athletes. Kalen Link was second team all-conference and Kendall Godley was first team all-conference. Both boys were selected to play in the 4A – 5A all-star tournament. Link and Godley were also candidates for the all-state team. After a season of football and basketball reporting, this is the last “Vinnie Mac Sports Corner” edition until next year. It has been a fun and enjoyable year for me.However, the columns would not have been possible without input and support from football Coach Jason Catron and basketball Coach Doug Ravasdy. Thanks to both of you and hope to see you again next year. Have a great summer. This column does not necessarily represent the views of The New Falcon Herald.
