New picnic shelter and fitness course

Last month, Woodmen Hills Metropolitan District Parks and Recreation celebrated the completion of the picnic shelter at Community Center West, the picnic shelter at Balcon Park and the fitness course stations at Horseshoe Park. The celebration was in conjunction with the district’s Military Appreciation Day.The entire project was funded by the El Paso County Urban Parks Grant program and the Conservation Trust Fund of the Colorado Lottery. “The total funding in the amount of $52,000 was (made) possible by the El Paso County Urban Parks Grant’s $25,000 and the Conservation Trust Fund’s $27,000, also making it possible at no cost to the Woodmen Hills district,” said Eddie Avedikian, Woodmen Hills parks and recreation manager. This is the second El Paso County Urban Parks Grant using CTF money that Woodmen Hills has received. In 2008, they built a new playground at Community Center West.Grace Community Church Pastor Pat Jeffery gave the dedication for the completion of the project, and El Paso County Commissioner Wayne Williams cut the ribbon at the ceremony.Avedikian said, “I am very grateful and would like to thank the following for their generosity and support in making these projects possible: the El Paso County Parks Department, the entire El Paso County Commissioners, the Conservation Trust Fund of the Colorado Lottery, the Woodmen Hills Board of Directors and Woodmen Hills district manager Larry Bishop, who supported the entire Parks and Recreation project.” He also thanked Jeffrey and Williams for their participation, as well as Woodmen Hills Metro District Board President Jan Pizzi for speaking at the ceremony. The celebration included goodie bags, hot dogs and cake.
