Shake-up at the Eastern Plains chamber

In April, Ron Craig and Terri Hobbs resigned from their positions as chairman and vice president, respectively, of the Eastern Plains Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. New board members were appointed April 21.”The board has changed composition quite a bit,” said Jason Gray, the board’s new chairman.Connie Johnson, who was the board’s vice president, is now the president. Janet McMonigal moved from secretary to vice president. Chris Wright was appointed secretary. Tom Cline remains treasurer. The chamber has a new Web site, too: www.easternplainschamber.com. The old Web site, www.easternchamber.org, is no longer available.”We as a board are working together to make sure this chamber follows its mission – growing our businesses individually, growing the business community of Falcon, Calhan and the eastern plains and advocating politically for our communities,” Gray said. The chamber’s bylaws require that the board chairman order a yearly financial audit of the books, Gray said.”It hadn’t been ordered yet, so one of the first things I did when I came on as chamber chairman was (an) order that all financial records of the chamber be audited by an independent certified public accountant, and that’s in progress now,” he said.Gray said a date will be set for a special meeting of all chamber members when the audit is complete.Ron Craig talked about the chamber and a new business group in Falcon.”The only thing I can say is that some people felt a different direction was needed,” Craig said. “There’s a whole new business group that’s looking at getting started with a different approach for small businesses to develop and prosper.”Terri Hobbs could not be reached for comment.
