If cement blocks could speak, the ones in the walls of the original Falcon Fire Protection Departmentís Station No. 1, on the corner of Highway 24 and Old Meridian Road, would reveal a unique history. Station 1 was literally built “by the people, for the people.” Fire department documents show construction began in November 1980, and the interior of the building was finished in June 1982. It took volunteers about 5,000 man-hours to complete the station.As the community expanded, new stations were added. Currently, the old station is being converted into administrative offices for the department. And a grand opening celebration for the new Station 1, at Meridian Ranch Boulevard and Stapleton Road, is tentatively scheduled for May 15.While a new station is a necessity, Falcon firefighters donít want the move to cut their ties with the past. Last month, Corey Kirt and Matt Seube sent a letter to retired Falcon Fire Department members, asking for any department memorabilia they could have. “If you have any old equipment, pictures or gear that you are willing to have displayed at the new station it would be greatly appreciated. You would retain ownership of any items donated for display,” they wrote.Write those stories and send in photos to let Falcon residents know how things were done in the olden days.
