During the next few weeks, Home Instead Senior Care will team up with local nonprofit agencies and area retailers to sponsor “Be a Santa to a Senior” – a program that collects, wraps and delivers more than 800 gifts to area seniors who are lower income and/or alone during the holidays. The program benefits seniors in Colorado Springs, Monument and Woodland Park. Area retailers, along with skilled care agencies, have partnered with the local senior care service agency to ensure isolated seniors receive gifts and companionship through the “Be a Santa to a Senior” program.”Most people aren’t aware that there are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of seniors in every community who have no family and are alone,” said Kathy Curry, owner of the Home Instead Senior Care office serving Colorado Springs, Monument and Woodland Park. “The holiday is often considered a time for children, but seniors – especially those who are isolated and lonely – need to be remembered as well. “Be a Santa to a Senior” is designed to give back to those needy seniors as well as to help stimulate human contact and social interaction for older adults who are unlikely to have guests during the holidays.”The public is invited to help with a community gift wrapping party Dec. 12, from 9 a.m. to noon at First United Methodist Church at 420 N. Nevada in Colorado Springs and Dec. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon at Park State Bank on Highway 24 in Woodland Park.
