Black Forest residents receive honors

Black Forest residents and local supporters were recognized at the Colorado State AARP Volunteer Recognition Brunch in Littleton, Colo., Oct. 23. Colorado AARP president Jim Dolbier announced Black Forest AARP Chapter #1100 had been selected as the most outstanding AARP chapter in Colorado for 2009. The chapter was cited for outstanding community service, programs, administration and overall chapter activities. For their effort, the chapter was awarded the Colorado AARP Chapter Cup trophy and given a check for $250. Chapter President Don Von Gunden accepted the awards on behalf of the chapter. This is the sixth consecutive year the Black Forest Chapter has been recognized as one of the top four AARP chapters in Colorado.Individual awards were presented for community services such as volunteer of the year, lifetime achievement, community outreach, work in the AARP tax program and driver safety programs. Stan Beckner, Black Forest AARP Chapter first vice president, was recognized as the AARP Foundation ElderWatch volunteer of the year.Black Forest AARP chapter membership is open to all ages.
