The Falcon Elementary School cafeteria, originally built in 1982, was recently upgraded to better serve students. It currently serves 330 students about 40,000 meals over the course of a year, including 100 breakfasts each day. Monica Deines-Henderson, Falcon School District 49 nutritional services director, said the project was funded by nutritional services funds, not taxpayer money.Improvements to the kitchen include upgraded shelving, additional workspace, new lighting, a resurfaced floor and a steamer that replaced a two-burner stove. “This (steamer) puts the vitamins back into the food,” said Deines-Henderson. In addition, decorative awnings were added to the cafeteria and Deines-Henderson said an Olympic-themed mural will be designed for the cafeteria. FES is the second oldest school in the district.Peyton student accepts scholarshipsRyan LiVecchi, a 2009 Falcon High School graduate, has accepted a $500 Copper Academic Award and a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in the Department of Justice Studies at Fort Hays State University for the 2009-2010 academic year.
