On May 21, the Educational Opportunity Foundation of Black Forest held its annual scholarship banquet and meeting. The group presented five local students with scholarships of $1,500 each. The recipients were Bailey Black, Graham Hegaman, Kaitlin Huss, Michael Ulen (all from Pine Creek High School) and Joseph Racicot (from Lewis-Palmer High School). Colorado Springs Mayor Lionel Rivera was the guest speaker.The organization has given scholarships since 1965. Scholarships are awarded to students from Academy District 20, Lewis-Palmer School District No 38 and Falcon School District 49. Students who are home-schooled or attend a private school are also eligible. Scholarships are not limited to those who are headed to a four-year college. The foundation encourages those to apply who continue their education at a trade school or two-year community institution and students who hold a General Equivalency Degree.For more information about the scholarship program, visit www.EOF.blackforest-co.com.
