On March 1 to 8, Falcon High School student Ellyn Ebner attended the Honeywell Scholars at the Presidential Classroom program in Washington, D.C. The program teaches the interconnection between science, technology and public policy. With President Obama’s commitment to the development of a greener economy, research and advancing technology, much of this year’s program focused on educating and arming future leaders. After an application and review process, Honeywell, a leading technology and manufacturing company, awarded Ellyn; along with 289 high school students from around the world, the opportunity to participate in the presidential classroom program.Ellyn learned about the inter-relationships of science, technology and public policy via interactions with members of Congress, presidential appointees, senior military officers, as well as top business leaders and journalists. Students also visited key landmarks in Washington, D.C., including the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Supreme Court, the National Academy of Sciences and Honeywell facilities at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.
