Fair queen selected

Dayna Marie Jenkins, age 21, of Peyton, was named the 2009 El Paso County Fair Queen.The El Paso County Fair Queen competition was held March 7 at the El Paso County Fairgrounds in Calhan. Five candidates competed in public speaking, horsemanship and interviews for the title of fair queen.Dayna is the daughter of Delbert and Donna Jenkins of Ordway and a 2006 graduate of Edison High School. She is currently a student at the University of Northern Colorado, majoring in journalism. She would like to pursue a broadcasting career after graduation and also become an interpreter for the hearing impaired.Dayna was a member of the Edison Drylanders 4-H Club for nine years. She was the National Honor Society president, student body president, class president, 4-H club president, valedictorian and KRDO Alive to Strive Student of the Year. She’s on the dean’s list at UNC. Dayna also enjoys sports. She played volleyball for Northeastern Junior College and coached volleyball for Platte Valley High School.Along with school, she currently has an internship with Regent Communication, which owns five radio stations in Northern Colorado.Meet Dayna at the 104th El Paso County Fair! The fair dates are July 18 to 25 in Calhan.
