2009 Tri for the Cure

This is the first in a series of columns that will follow the training of local Tri for the Cure participants.Swim, ride, run. Could you go from couch potato to tri-athlete? I am the owner of Falcon Snap Fitness gym and would like to sponsor a team for this year’s Tri for the Cure – A Women’s Triathlon. The event will be held Sunday, Aug. 2. As the owner of a gym, I still confess to couch potato tendencies but have found that having a training goal helps me stay with my program. I am looking for a few women to join my team, train with me over the course of the next several months and have fun doing it. Sorry guys, but this is a gals-only event. The Denver Tri for the Cure Triathlon is an incredible event where you can be a part of a unique experience designed for women. This sprint distance triathlon format involves swimming one-half mile, biking 11 miles and running 3.2 miles at Cherry Creek Reservoir to support Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer research.Join me for a life-changing event that allows you to get with a group of other motivated people, and support an amazing cause while having fun and getting fit.I completed this event in 2008 and it was an amazing experience. Last year, my goal was to finish the event. I did; it wasn’t pretty, but it was incredibly fulfilling. This year, I would like to beat my times from 2008. I will be keeping a diary in The New Falcon Herald of my own and the group training efforts from now until the actual event. I will tell you about the trials, tribulations and successes as the group strives to reach this fabulous goal. We will talk to other members of the group and hear about their experiences. The first meeting of the Falcon Snap Fitness Tri for the Cure team will be Saturday, Feb. 21 at 11 a.m. at Snap Fitness, 7360 McLaughlin Road. Plans, schedules and goals will be discussed. This is your opportunity to find out more and get signed up. You do not need to be a member of Snap Fitness to join the team.Snap Fitness Falcon will donate 50 percent of the gym membership enrollment dues to the Susan G. Komen foundation for anyone who takes on the “Tri for the Cure Package.” Everyone who joins the group will receive a training plan and receive a Snap T-shirt, water bottle and baseball cap to keep them motivated. Coupled with monthly get-togethers, we have a simple plan that you can follow to get you to the end goal. For more information, call me at 719-622-6601 or e-mail falcon@snapfitness.com.
