VINNIE MAC SPORTS CORNER

The Vinnie Mac Sports Corner is pretty sparse for this issue due to the fact that the sports programs at Falcon High School were on hold over the holidays. The programs will be in full force beginning Jan. 10, and I will be reporting on them in our next issue.I have been in contact with the girls’ basketball coach and will include their program in the Sports Corner in the future, if the coach will get back to me. I also spoke with the girls’ cheer squad coach before vacation, but so far she has not gotten back to me, either. I understand that the girls did well at the state meet in Denver, but I have nothing in writing to verify this. I hope I will have this information, although late, in our next edition. In the first Vinnie Mac Sports column, I invited anyone who had a sports question or comment to get it to me at Vinniemac@newfalconherald.com or 719.390.0953 or 719.491.7986; and, if appropriate, there was the possibility it could be included in the Sports Corner. Well, the following was sent to me by a NFH reader who lives in Nebraska, the land of the “GO BIG RED.” There were no additions or deletions on this e-mail, as it is pretty clear what he was leading up to. Please enjoy.Dear Vinnie Mac:I just have a hypothetical sports question I hope you can answer. If your High School team, that you quarterbacked (Wallace ’56 with a 9 & 1 record) got a chance to play the Wallace team of ’90 quarterbacked by your nephew, (10 & 1 record) in a hypothetical game with both teams in their prime, how bad would your nephew’s team have beaten you?Sincerely,Travis MacDear Travis Mac:Since both teams were powerhouses, had studs for athletes, better than average signal callers and had excellent coaching, I believe the game would have been played to a fairly high scoring tie. Sorry Trav, I know that wasn’t what you were looking for, but it’s all you get.If you haven’t guessed by now, that Nebraska reader and quarterback of the ’90 team is my nephew, Travis McConnell. If you have any questions or comments, be sure to fire them off to me at the Sports Corner. See you at the next Vinnie Mac Sports Corner. This column does not necessarily represent the views of The New Falcon Herald.
