Today, we know the future President of the greatest nation on earth. This day would not be possible without the blood, sweat and tears of those who have served and those who continue to serve our country. The brave men and women of uniform make it possible for us to enjoy the fruits of our labor, freedoms and liberties endowed to us by the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights.World War I officially ended on June 28, 1919, with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles in France. Fighting actually ceased seven months earlier on the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. November 11, 1918 represents the end of the “war to end all wars”.* While we discuss the events, policies and individuals who will be guiding our nation in the upcoming years, it is important that we honor the men and women who have made these events possible.Tuesday, Nov. 11, marked the 89th anniversary of Veterans Day. On this day we celebrated our nation’s greatness and thanked the men and women responsible for our independence, liberty and self-government.House District 19 is home to 24,000 active duty personnel from Peterson Air Force Base, Schriever Air Force Base and a small portion of Fort Carson Army Post. Since World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan War, the families of our state have lost over 4,311 fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, sisters and brothers to wartime activities.My father, Carl Herman Rowe, who served in the Korean War, taught me the importance of serving our country and our community.
