Chamber wrap up

At the August Eastern Plains Chamber meeting, Tom Cline reported that the chamber has $15,073.52 in its bank account, with all outstanding bills paid.Kevin Barnhoff of First Command Financial Services spoke about what to look for in a financial planner, and Mendy Anderson, owner of Homemade Gourmet, demonstrated meal planning using her pre-packaged spices. It was announced that Rep. Doug Lamborn is researching a zip code exclusively for Falcon. The chamber also is producing a new area map, with the Falcon area on one side and El Paso County on the other. Ads will be placed around the edges of both sides of the map. All chamber members will be listed, and ad space is open to members and non-members. The maps will be presented to Fort Carson, Schriever Air Force Base, Peterson Air Force Base and the U.S. Air Force Academy.Because Fort Carson is the new home for Fort Bliss, the Army base is expected to double in the next two years. It’s possible that many of the new residents will move to Falcon and the area, and the maps will be invaluable aids. The Falcon parade has been shelved until next year.As of Jan. 1, Terri Hobbs will be the chamber president and Cindy Stimits will be the chamber secretary.
