The recent tomato health scare has many people shunning the fruit. However, a local family supplies other families and businesses with fresh tomatoes. Golden Moment Farm is not a commercial operation, said owner Whitmar McConnell. “Our goal is to sell within 30 miles of home, so people can get fresh, nutritious, quality food.”The McConnell’s began farming for their personal use, but as expenses increased to grow the fruits and vegetables, they began selling the fruits of their labor. McConnell, who sells his produce at three farmer’s markets and area restaurants, said, “The demand for local produce is really going through the roof.” McConnell said the quality of his produce is apparent because the produce is picked when it is mature to ensure it is nutrient dense, and no chemicals are used. “This result is better eating quality and better nutrition,” he said.Golden Moment Farm is at 19027 Murphy Road in Peyton.
