Unlike Falcon, neither Elbert nor Peyton has a traffic signal or a major retail store. Both towns, however, have something that Falcon cannot claim: a full-service post office. The State Bank houses a postal facility, but it doesn’t offer the same amenities as a full-service post office.According to one anonymous source, Rep. Douglas Lamborn has said he will do all that he can to provide Falcon with a full-service post office. Lamborn’s office responded to the rumor with the following e-mail to the NFH.”Congressman Lamborn’s office has been made aware of the desire for Falcon constituents to have a local post office. The congressman fully supports this effort and his office has been actively working with the United States Postal Service to find out what it would take to bring a post office to Falcon. However, the United States Postal Service has expressed some reluctance, and is unwilling to commit to a new facility at this time. Nevertheless, we are continuing to explore other available options to meet this need.”Al de Serra, spokesman for the 18-state U.S. Postal Service Western Region, talked about the reasons that a post office would probably not be coming to Falcon. “These decisions are done at a district level. There are very few new facilities being built,” de Serra said. “In today’s climate, it is not possible without a huge influx of population. There is no tax money supporting the postal service now, and we have no funds for new facilities.”
