Katherine Spicer has been appointed to the Pikes Peak Library District’s board of trustees. Spicer, appointed jointly by representatives from the Colorado Springs City Council and the El Paso County Board of County Commissioners, replaces trustee Jo Ann L. Orsborn, whose term expired in December.Spicer has lived in Colorado Springs since 1990. She graduated from Colorado College in 1993 and Washburn University School of Law in 1999. Formerly a public defender, she is now a prosecuting attorney with the city. Spicer also has volunteered for the Children’s Literacy Center and the El Paso County Department of Human Services “Project Redirect” program. She is a life-long library user and is dedicated to what she references as “one of this community’s greatest public institutions.” Spicer and her husband Don have 4-year-old twin daughters.Former trustee Orsborn became a member of the Pikes Peak Library District Board of Trustees in 1998. During her 10 years of service, the library underwent significant changes in service delivery and collections. Library users have greater access and control over the library experience with advancements like self check out and online browsing and reference. Patrons can now receive information about due dates and available books by e-mail and instant messaging.PPLD is governed by the Pikes Peak Library District Board of Trustees, consisting of seven members. Members of the board are appointed for a five-year term, with appointments taking place as necessary. When PPLD Board of Trustees vacancies occur, they are advertised widely and citizens are encouraged to apply.
