Pikes Peak Therapeutic Riding Center receives grant for riding program

Pikes Peak Therapeutic Riding Center has received a $5,000 grant from the Daniels Fund to support its therapeutic riding program.PPTRC began in 1981 when several families and therapists in the area began to discover the mental and physical benefits of horseback riding for their children with disabilities. PPTRC works with children challenged by developmental delays, Autism, Asperger’s syndrome, Down syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, traumatic brain injuries and other debilitating conditions.”The generosity of the Daniels fund will enable individuals with disabilities – especially those with developmental disabilities – to receive beneficial therapeutic riding,” said Christy Stettler, executive director. “Stamina is increased as well as mobility and coordination. Enhanced memory and self-confidence, improved posture and balance, strengthened muscles and improved concentration are often the results of equine assisted therapy. All of our riders take with them new skills that they can apply in their everyday lives.”The Daniels Fund operates the Daniels Fund Scholarship Program and the Daniels Fund Grants Program in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. The Fund was established in 1997 by Bill Daniels, a pioneer in cable television.
