Falcon Lion’s Club update

At the Falcon Lions Club May meeting, Rob Dalzell introduced the El Paso County Fair queen, Spencer Wilkinson, who updated the group on new events at the fair this year. She also invited our attendance and answered our questions.The Barrett family of nine (winners of the TV show “Extreme Makeover”) gave a great presentation about their family interests and achievements. Anne Barrett, mother of the brood, detailed how she home schools and also talked about their new home and new school, complements of the TV show. She also answered questions about adoption.Guiding Lion Monty Whitney updated the group about the state convention held in Grand Junction.Denise Keiley, membership chairwoman, outlined the events, which include the Falcon Festival, the El Paso County Fair and the September family social.Sam Leffler, fundraising chairman, talked about the details of the Falcon Festival fundraiser, which includes a pancake breakfast and a pig roast. The first arts and craft fair was a success and more are scheduled – see “Community Calendar” for details on upcoming events.Roger Condie, service chairperson, reported on the Saturday work day at the Colorado Lions Club Camp in Woodland Park, where members cut trees, cleaned cabins, replaced doors and completed other maintenance projects to get the camp ready for usage. Other 2007 service projects include Kidsight, an eye screening program for all preschool children – contact Don LaRocca at 719-495-8106 or Dr. Andy Royer, Falcon Family Eye Care, at 719-886-4770 for screen information; a clothing and food drive – for information, contact Jean Woolsey at 719-749-2090 for drop off locations; a Woodmen Road clean up – contact Rob Dalzell at 719-683-4127 for schedule; Kidspree and sponsoring a 4 H club, Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troup and Leo Club.”An Enchanted Tropical Evening” hosted by the Cheyenne Mountain Lions Club is scheduled for June 30, from 6 to 10 p.m. The event features exotic foods, authentic Hawaiian dance, door prizes and even a stroll on the beach at the County Club. The Colorado Kidsight program will benefit from the event. Tickets are $50 each. It should be a fabulous evening for a great cause.
