Waking up to rain and low clouds on Saturday, Aug. 19, was not a great way to start the Meadow Lake event, “Wings over Falcon.” In spite of the weather, the event proved to be a fun experience for all. Thanks to everyone from the community who came out to see the planes, visit with the pilots, buy rides in the helicopters, get information from vendors or just to buy a fun T-shirt.A big thanks to the following businesses:The panels provided by Big “R” were excellent safety barricades, and a temporary Internet connection thanks to Falcon Broadband provided an educational experience for young people accessing an air traffic controller simulation site. Boy Scouts Troop 124 helped park cars, and they sold soda, cleaned tables and collected trash. Centennial Modeling Club donated materials for 18 model airplanes that were completed. The Colorado Springs Rocket Society introduced visitors to building and launching rockets.Special thanks to Christopher Bateman, Malcolm Thomson, High Flights Soaring, and Premier Helicopters for offering rides in their airplanes and helicopters as part of the raffle. The proceeds from the fly-in will be used by the Aviation Education Foundation of Colorado Inc. to fund educational programs for young people. Proceeds from the concessions will be shared by the Rocky Mountain Sertoma Club and Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 72, which promotes aviation in the community. The EAAC chapter 72 also sponsors the Young Eagle Rallies – 72 member pilots donate their time and planes to provide free airplane rides to children between the ages of 8 and 17.We are looking forward to the event again next year.
