School district derelict decisions consistent nationwideKealing Middle School in East Austin, Texas, is about to get a $9 million facelift. Included in the budget are new student lockers. But the lockers have been sitting empty for 10 years. School officials banned their use because they were being used to hide contraband, and students were using locker visits as an excuse for being late to class. Even though the lockers still won’t be used after the renovation, they’ll be upgraded anyway at a cost of $60,000. Appeals by taxpayers to spend the money on something else that would actually be used have been denied. “The educational specifications were developed to provide a model for consistency across the district,” said a school district official. (Austin American-Statesman) …Translation: The stupidity of the administrators is consistent throughout the district.www.thisistrue.comThe following was taken directly from the D 49 Web site – notes from a board workshop“Respect for the Board and their position. Board members feel that when they visit schools, they are not being welcomed and accepted. Staff needs to show and demonstrate respect toward all the board members. This needs to be modeled to all staff at all levels, even at the schools. When a Board member attends a meeting in an official capacity, he or she should be introduced. The Board member should be introduced at public functions unless he or she informs the administrator in charge differently. The manner of address (Director, Mr., Mrs., first names) is not as important to the Board as is being treated respectfully.”What’s that old saying: Do unto others …I told you soThe Cherokee Municipal District has been court ordered to stop pumping water from wells No. 1 through No. 8. They have defied that order, except for one Saturday when they shut down the wells. After just a few hours, Kip Petersen, manager of Cherokee Municipal District, said the water level in one of their storage tanks dropped to 2 and one-half feet, forcing them to resume pumping. The storage tanks, which are at least 20 ft. high, are used to supply the subdivisions with water. However, Cherokee is taking the issue to the Supreme Court. For now, they are in contempt of court regarding the district judge’s ruling that they cease pumping those wells. Are we going backwards in this country?
