Eastern Plains Chamber of Commerce

By Lauren Tamm

The Eastern Plains Chamber of Commerce recently hosted its monthly breakfast meeting in Falcon, bringing together local business owners, nonprofit leaders and residents from across eastern El Paso County. Umbrella Local sponsored this month’s breakfast.

Umbrella Local opened the meeting with a brief presentation, sharing how the company works with small and locally owned businesses to improve their online visibility and better understand how customers find them. The presentation highlighted how advances in technology have made professional-level digital marketing tools more accessible for local businesses that may not have the time or resources to manage those efforts in-house.

Following the sponsor presentation, Don Koveleski of the Falcon Exchange Club shared the history and mission of the club, a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to strengthening the community through service and civic engagement. The Exchange Club is part of a national organization founded in 1911, with more than 700 clubs across the United States and Puerto Rico.

Koveleski outlined the club’s four primary areas of focus: Americanism, community service, youth programs and child abuse prevention. One of the club’s most recognizable initiatives is the Freedom Shrine, a permanent display of historic documents illustrating the foundations of American democracy. Freedom Shrines are currently installed at Falcon High School and Sand Creek High School, with plans to expand to additional schools and community locations.

Additional community efforts discussed included highway cleanups, food pantry partnerships, support for veterans and first responders, senior resource events and youth recognition and scholarship programs. During the holiday season, the Exchange of Joy program supports foster children and families through the distribution of toys and essential items.

The Falcon Exchange Club meets on the second Wednesday of each month and welcomes community members interested in learning more or getting involved.
