New name: Odyssey Elementary SchoolThe odyssey of looking for a name for D 49’s newest elementary school has ended successfully. The school previously referred to as elementary school No. 9 will now be called Odyssey Elementary School. The definition of odyssey: a long series of travels and adventure. The school’s principal, Pam Weyer, said the odyssey definition also could apply to a student’s journey through elementary school.Thirty-seven names were submitted to the school’s naming committee.Odyssey Elementary School will maintain a math and science focus and will open in August for the start of the 2006-2007 school year. The school is located at 6275 Bridal Spur Ave. near Stetson Hills and Charlotte Parkway. The project was part of the mill levy override approved by D 49 voters in November of 2005.
